Introduction to SGS OVERLORD:
SGS Overlord is a stand-alone game about the WW2 operations in Normandy, covering June 6th, 1944 to the end of August. Using 3-day turns, it covers everything from D-Day onwards. As the Germans, you must hold the front as long as you can to help the Reich’s survival.
As the Allies, use American, Canadian, British, and French forces to secure a strong position and break out from Normandy towards Paris, aiming to win the war by Christmas. The entire campaign starts on June 6th and lasts 30 turns; the Bocage campaign, focusing on tough fights in the Normandy bocage, lasts 22 turns; the Race for Cherbourg runs 7 turns from June 6th to June 26th; and Operation Cobra covers the American breakout from July 2nd to August 18th, lasting 15 turns.
More scenarios like the Battle of Caen or Mortain/Falaise may be added later based on the game’s success and player demand. The game scale is at the brigade or divisional level for both sides’ land units, with smaller units, air units, and naval support (only for Allies) included.
Fortifications and supply units are also present. Both sides are balanced and fun to play each with their own strengths and weaknesses explained in detailed scenario sheets. One player represents German forces including the Wehrmacht Luftwaffe and Waffen SS. While the other commands American British Canadian Polish and French troops.
The Germans have good troops and strong defensive positions using Normandys terrain to their advantage. The Allies, with massive air superiority, must capture key points early, unite beachheads, and secure a port for supplies. Weather and supply issues can make the campaign slow and positional, like WW1, rather than a fast Blitzkrieg.
